How to prevent and tackle Wrinkles, Blemishes & Imperfections - Importance of SPF

In this article we will be approaching wrinkle prevention. This is part one of many on how to tackle and prevent wrinkles.

What are wrinkles and how are they formed?

Wrinkles are a naturally occurring process of ageing, they occur when our skin loses its collagen and keratin therefore losing elasticity. However, exposure to things such as UV, pollution, chemicals, hormones and even allergies can impact how our skin ages. "The culprits are age-related changes in our skin and sun exposure. As we age, we produce less collagen and elastin, which decreases our skin's resiliency. We also lose subdermal fat, and that loss of structural support leads to wrinkling and sagging of the skin.” McGill University

SPF and why we love it.

Exposure to sun is normal, it's recommended, it provides you with the most natural way of obtaining Vitamin D, unless you are allergic or overall not allowed to be exposed to sunlight, everyone will tell you how important it is to get your daily Vitamin D in the sun. Not only it's good for your overall health but also it has so many benefits regarding your mental health. Believe me, I lived in England for 12 years, and I was miserable.

With sunlight exposure comes UV exposure, which is what helps us tan, the higher the UV the more likely you are to tan, or burn. Regardless whether you are on holiday or you are living in a place that is known for high UV, it is 100% recommended that you use SPF, also knows as Sunscreen.

You can find your UV exposure levels on your phone's weather app. Regardless how low or high the UV is, you should be wearing SPF no matter what. Don't believe me? Look at the below image and ask yourself which twin looks healthier and younger.

I recommend using SPF 50 on your face all year round and SPF 30 on your body as often as possible. Using 2 coin sized drops and making sure to also cover the ears, neck, the cleavage area and hands for the best coverage and the best effects.
